The CMAC FIS team would like to give a big THANKS to SARS (Schweitzer Alpine Racing School) and Schweitzer Mountain for allowing us to train with them up at Schweitzer!

Over Christmas break CMAC FIS team got the opportunity to go over to Schweitzer for some early morning SG and GS training due to the low snow at Crystal. After four days of excellent training on great snow conditions and some hard work setting up B-Net the FIS team was ready to tackle the NW Cup races at Schweitzer.

Four days of challenging races saw some great move-ups and results for the FIS team. Overall our entire team showed huge improvement throughout the training and races.  Keith McNabb finished 5th and 6th in the two SGs and 4th in one of the GSs. Andrew Osborne had a 10th place result in SG and a 13th in GS. Lawrence Dickey finished 12th in a GS. For the ladies Jordan Harrision finished 15th one of the GSs and Lily Eriksen CMAC alum finished 6th in one of the SGs.

Points-wise our team did very well! Charles LeCuyer, Riley Hunter, Mitch Stone, Andy Koefoed, Andrew Osborne, Lawrence Dickey, Christian Hanseler, Stephanie Frey, and Natalie McFall all lowered their points in one or both events! Our first year FIS athletes Corbin Kray, Liam Fenn, Braydon Hall, Reid Reininger, Jordan Harrison, Allie Frey, Sarah Hampson, Siri Knudsen, and Megan Wurden all scored and gave themselves some great points to start off the year in GS and SG!

Thanks to Matt Hammond for this report!

Ice Storm at the Russ Read races!  Due to the poor conditions here at home, many of our CMAC racers made the trek to Mt. Bachelor to race in the Russ Read GS. The weather went for form good to impossible. We had a nice first run of GS and then the ice storm hit. Raining and 26 degrees. The water was freezing so quickly on our jackets that the ice was breaking of like pieces of glass. They rescheduled the 2nd run for Saturday morning , but then all the lifts were frozen and could not operate. It was beautiful sunshine at noon, but we could not get up the mountain to race. They finally had the 2nd run two days later on Sunday morning and then ran a second full GS race, so three runs in one day. We ended up with a very good race experience with a few podium finishes and some excellent move ups.

Christian Hanseler and Katie Hensien both came away with Third place overall and Katie Holm won the girls move up award. On Monday we all stuck around for some SL training. Thanks to Mt. Bachelor for letting us have some training space. We had a nice weekend of training and racing.

Andrew Osborne just returned home from the Copper Mountain Speed NorAm. He competed in 2 NorAm downhill races, the US National Championship downhill and 2 NorAm super g races. Andrew was racing against many different Olympic hopefuls from many different countries including some from the US. Andrew finished all three downhill races with his best result coming in the last downhill race. He finished 76th after starting 89th and had the 34th fastest recorded speed at 68.11 MPH, lowering his points in 2 of the 3 races. Unfortunately Andrew did not finish either of the Super G races. They were difficult courses and some little mistakes cost him a finish in both races.

We started the 2013-2014 season with two Slaloms in Mission Ridge.  Overall it was a great start to the season with good snow conditions and small field size.  It was the first FIS starts for a few athletes: Corbin Kray, Braydon Hall, Reid Reininger, Jordy Harrison, Allie Frey, Megan Wurden and Sarah Hampson. It was great to get that first FIS race out of the way!

Jordy lead the way for the girls, finishing on the podium in her second FIS start.  Lawrence Dickey tied for 4th with Christian Hanseler right behind in 6th on the second day. Tasha had her first race since her injury at Mission last season.

Awesome performances by CMAC athletes at U16: Tyler Ellis, Jordan Harrison and Alex Oseland!

The CMAC racers enjoyed a cold week up in Alaska. The temps were below 10 degrees in the morning, and with not much warming during the days. Very different than the spring we are enjoying down here in Seattle. The Alyeska ski resort is around 100 feet above sea level, which makes for an interesting climate. plus the days start late and last long this time of year. The hill opens to public at 10:30AM, but they skied in the bright sunshine at 6PM in the evening.

The snow on the race courses was very hard and perfect for racing. The US Academy team provided some tough competition for all of our racers but our CMAC kids scored some respectable results and showed that they are in striking distance of the leaders. We will need a strong off season training program that will improve our strength and agility, and our kids can close the gap and score with the best next sesaon. It will just take some serious hard work, determination and commitment to being a better athlete. Along with that, we found out that racing with a bit more fearlessness will go a long way. Being stronger will give the confidence to lay it on the line, and go for it, rather than holding back and skiing defensive.

Here's a full recap from Paul Mahre: Congrats to all PNSA U-16 members for a very successful championships up in Alaska. Tanner Lujan of MBSEF grabbed a 2nd in both Super G's and a 4th in the GS. Qualifying for the U-16 NDS project in Park City. Elyse Burandt-SSRA placed 3rd in SG #2, and a 5th in the slalom. Tyler Ellis -CMAC 4th in SG #2, followed by Trevor Maxwell-CWSC-5th, Preston Nelson-8th, and Nathan Gunnesch -MHA-10th. Michael Estrella-SSRA -6th in the GS. Jordan Harrison- CMAC 7th, 8th in the SG's. Alex Oseland-CMAC-8th in the slalom, and Gracie Struthers-MRST-10th in the GS

To sum up some of CMAC results.

    • Jordy Harrison GS -14th- only 2 seconds out second run,  SG- 8th and 7th
    • Alex Oseland  SL- 8th  - 1.8 seconds out second run,  DH -5th
    • Ella Pepin SG 27 ,   DH 4 and 6th
