We have a lot happening this weekend --
Skills Quest competition will take place during the morning session on Gold Hill. We will have a representative from the US Ski Assoc. here to assist us, and US Ski Team and CMAC alumni Libby Ludlow will also be here to encourage and inspire our young athletes. Here is the schedule:
8:30am pick up your bib at the CMAC shack.
    8:45-9:00 head for the lifts
9-9:45  warm up runs with your coach.
10:00-11:30  Your coach will guide you through the four challenge stations on Gold Hill.
11:30 -12:45 Lunch (and optional luncheon at the Alpine Inn).
12:45 -2:45pm afternoon training with your coach.
1:00-1:30pm parent presentation  on skills, Skills Quest and USSA Training System at the CMAC shack.
3-3:30 Awards presentation at CMAC shack.
    The Skills Quest Challenges are:
    1) Short radius linked turns with pole plant
    2)  U14:  One ski skiing
U8-U10:  Athletic stance to parallel turn (straight run into carved)
    3) Pivot Slips
    4) Pole Jumpers
You will be scored on each of the four challenges, with awards for the top scores in each age group.
**All competitors should click here to watch the videos !  This will give you a great image of what the judges will be looking for on Saturday!
All Prep and Advanced Prep skiers are automatically registered for the Skills Quest competition.
We also have the Mighty Mite Luncheon at the Snorking Elk.  It features a Pizza buffet, mixed green salad, cookies, coffee, tea and soda. $11/person +taxes/fees (more details) Reservations are required: call 360-663-2262 or email reservations@crystalhotels.com

One of the greatest challenges we learn as ski racers is discipline, which includes the ability to resist the urge to ski powder on competition days. The snow report calls for 1-3 feet of new snow this weekend!   I'm sure the coaches will reveal their secret powder stash in the afternoon.

    Saturday Prep Program
    Saturday Advanced Prep
    Hello Skiers!
The Skills Quest competition which was originally planned for this Saturday is now being rescheduled for Feb. 23rd.  The US Ski Association will be sending a representative to participate in the program and help with scoring, and they may also be sending a U.S. Ski Team Alumni for a special presentation. This new date will also give us a few more weeks to practice the drills!  Coaches will also be giving out bonus points during the next few weeks for extra effort, timeliness, knowing the Skier Responsibility Code, setting an example for safe skiing, helping others in their group, etc. These points will be added to the scores on Skills Quest day.  For more information on Skills Quest, please see:
Last Saturday we set up a "corridor" on Gold Hill, to help with the pivot slips drill (one of the Skills Quest challenges). The 2 lines of brushes set in the snow helped skiers stay in the fall-line while doing their pivot slips. This weekend we are hoping to use the brushes as an introductory to gate training, and may also run gates if there is enough space with other training groups.  With new snow in the forecast, I'm sure we will fit in a few powder turns as well.
    Some reminders:
We need to leave space for skier traffic passing through the meeting area. Please group up towards the gondola or up on the hillside, to leave a path in front of the shacks. This includes skis left in the snow during lunch break.
If you are interested in competing in the Mighty Mite GS race in February (optional), you will need a USSA competitor card. Please discuss this with your coach if you are interested. We will have a coach available on the race course to help those that are participating. You do not need the USSA card for the Sallie McNabb Cup.

I look forward to another great day of skiing!

    Stay Tuned!

The revised group roster is posted on the website (under Prep program).  There were a lot of kids gone week one, so there will still be some shuffling between  groups so that kids can be matched to a group that best fits the skill level.

If this week is your first time, please meet at the CMAC shacks, located at the bottom of Exterminator run, above and to the right of the lodge and Chinook lift base.

Plenty of new snow, it will be another fantastic day of skiing!

    Stay Tuned!

    Paul
