In Schweitzer, our elite level speed skiers were tested with perfect snow conditions on a fun and fast course. Our two top girls Katie Holm and Evie Wright scored numerous top 20 results, and Katie finished off the week with a 3rd and 6th in SG which will qualify her for the Junior Nationals. Congrats Katie! Zach Derwin got his rookie start at a speed FIS event and had a ton of fun.

Our upper level skiers have been out on the race circuit a few times this season competing in the qualifiers for the Junior nationals.  At the SL and GS qualifiers in Big Sky, Katie Holm, Evie Wright, Lewis White and Wyatt Kray competed in an Elite level FIS series. Katie led the way with some very good skiing starting from the 20’s moving into the top 15 in three races. The rest of the group was attending their first Elite level series and it was quite a challenge, but all improved their skiing through the week. Becoming a great ski racer has lots of challenges and the pressure of competition really makes you push your limits to get better. I expect all of them to come back to show some new strength and perseverance in our NW Cup Series.

The weather was sunny and mild for Big Sky and the groomers were perfect for warm up and free skiing. What a great place for racing! Here are a few photos in action.

Our FIS and U16 have had a spectacular weekend at Mt. Spokane. We had large move ups and strong effort across the board. Annie Frohlich had a 2nd and 3rd and is well on her way to a top seed in the U16 champs. She was followed by Sydney Kraabel and Ella Skoglund both in top 15 placing all weekend. Both are scoring points toward junior champs.  Our entire girls team was looking good as a group, great strides in technique, attitude and effort.

On the boys side, they also had some great move ups and scores. The FIS boys, Lewis and Zach both scored top 15’s and scored points and are likely on their way to champs. The U16’s had some top 15 and top 20’s and we have a group that is moving up the ranks.  Owen and Graham led the U16 group. Their skill development has been solid, just a little bit more work and this group will move in to the top 10 on a regular basis. Its really fun to watch them improve. The rest of the U16 boys are right at their heal and I expect break through in the near future. Keep up the good work boys!

Following this series, CMAC is in the lead for the overall NW Cup as a team. Many more races to go, but congratulations team! Keep it up.

The highlight of the weekend may have Benn the Kart racing on our day off! Look for another Kart racing day scheduled for CMAC this spring.
